There are some books that are like the warm sun on a chilly winter morning. Sunshine Town, by Maniissh Arora is a book that wraps you in its warmth just like the sun on a winter morning. A story which will resonate well with a phase of life, we all have walked past.
The story talks about how sometimes we chase a purpose or thing in life with all our might, oblivious to the fact that they are just not meant for us. This is the story of a teenager Shlok whose dream is to make his parents proud and fulfil their aspirations.
Set in the 90s, the protagonist Shlok is like any other teenager, discovering new emotions, building inclinations and living a life that has a list of questions. His trials and tribulations, his efforts, his search to look beyond the conventional and his resolve to take it all in his stride is intricately woven in a tale a lot of us can relate to. The author has effortlessly unravelled Shlok’s journey from a student to a professional.
What makes Sunshine Town different from other umpteen teen fiction books is the fact that it deals with teenage infatuations and romance in a clean manner. The author has meticulously written a simple, sleaze free story and kudos to him for this.
The language is simple and lucid. The plot and characters flow easily. Yes, there are instances when the descriptions get elaborate, but thankfully they still kept me hooked to the story.
All in all, a nice, warm, fuzzy story of a teenager who walks past his wonder years with flying colours.

What’s hot: The plot, the characters and the simplicity.
What could have been better: Would have loved to read more about Varanasi.
